Sagaia, AKA Darius II, combines great graphics for a title produced between 1989 and 1991 as well as storytelling and game play elements rarely found until much later. It gives you some choice in how you progress instead of being strictly linear. Tying you to the story is important as the levels can be quite challenging but your connection to it makes completing each new section all the more rewarding, leading to a compelling experience.

It’s one of the best shooters for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive and it’s in my personal top 5 out of literally houndreds of shooters that came out on the Genesis.. if you don’t know about it and like these style games (vertical scrolling shooters), than you absolutely need to check this great game out!
